An 18-year-old West Virginia University freshman
Saira Blair has made history as America’s
youngest State Lawmaker after she was voted into
the West Virgina House of Delegates.
At 17, the now 18-year-old defeated Republican
incumbent state lawmaker Larry D. Kump » in the
GOP primary for 59th District back in April. On
Tuesday, November 4, Siara was elected to the
state’s House of Delegates.
The republican plans to defer her spring semester
classes to travel to the state’s capitol in Charleston
and participate in the 60-day legislative session
from January to March and make up for the
classes in the summer and fall.
She will be representing the 59th district of 18,000
people in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, not
far from Washington, D.C.
Saira is not stepping into an unfamiliar territory;
her dad Craig Blair who is currently a state
Senator, served in the House of Delegates for eight
years.
